RobotNorge AS - Contribution to the RoBUTCHER project
RobotNorge AS is a total supplier of robot and automation solutions, offering integration of industrial robots, “cobots,” mobile and autonomous vehicles (AIV & AGV) in combination with new technology such as machine vision, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality in new and existing facilities. In addition to being a system integrator of robots, RobotNorge also plays an important role in the technological development of process tools such as knives, saws, and grippers.

RobotNorge has contributed to the development of an exciting project in automating the slaughter process and is the project manager for the work package that deals with the Human-robot Interface. The project aims to improve the slaughter process by introducing robot technology with AI and Virtual Reality. The robot will perform the same hand movement as a butcher, and to solve this, feedback from the user to the robot is needed. RobotNorge leads the development and integration of this interface.
RobotNorge has also done its part to ensure the safe use of robots to avoid harm to people from crushing and cutting injuries from knives. They have verified and tested robot paths in RobotStudio to ensure that the robots perform the desired movement in the expected way. They have also set up external axes for carcass holding, synchronized coordinates for two robots, set up a tool changer, configured a camera, and created an HMI for controlling robots and carcass holding.
RobotNorge has also contributed to the creation of software for fast and comprehensive communication between robots and higher-level systems. They have developed the communication protocol RNL, which enables communication between robots and higher-level systems. NodeRED sends packages of information to the robot, and this communication protocol interprets these packages and runs the desired movement of the robot. RobotNorge has also developed special functions in rapid, such as VerifyAndMoveMod, which confirms the path sent to the robot.
One of the biggest challenges in robotization is ensuring that robots move in a safe and efficient manner. This includes avoiding collisions between robots and ensuring they do not end up in positions they cannot reach. RobotNorge has taken on this challenge by developing and testing robot paths in RobotStudio, so that the movements of the robots can be verified and adjusted before they are put into operation. We have also worked on integrating external axes and tool changers into robot systems, making it easier to automate multiple processes at the same time.
Collaboration between robots and higher-level systems is an important part of successful robotization. RobotNorge has developed the communication protocol RNL, which enables communication between robots and higher-level systems. This makes it easier to integrate robot systems with existing systems and also enables the collection and analysis of data from robots.
Another challenge in robotization is variations in data generated by AI. RobotNorge has taken on this challenge by developing special functions in rapid, such as VerifyAndMoveMod, which confirms the paths sent to the robots and ensures they can perform the specified movements. If the robots are unable to perform the specified movements, the system will send a response containing the reason why the robots cannot perform the movements.
RobotNorge sees many opportunities for improving and developing robot technology in the future. We have already helped invent knife tools and blades that make it easier to automate cutting processes. Additionally, we have been involved in setting up external axes and tool changers that have made it easier to automate multiple processes at the same time.
RobotNorge will continue to develop and improve the communication protocol RNL, making it easier to integrate robot systems with existing systems. We will also continue to develop new and improved solutions for robotization, making it easier and safer for companies to adopt these technologies.
Robotization will continue to be an important part of the industry in the future, and there will be many challenges to take on. RobotNorge will continue to play an important role in the development of robotics technology and automation solutions and will continue to work on finding solutions to the challenges that arise.
One of the biggest challenges in the future will be to ensure that robots can seamlessly collaborate with humans. This requires not only advanced technology, but also a thorough understanding of human behavior and interaction.
Another challenge will be to ensure that robots can be adapted to different working conditions and tasks. This will require the development of more flexible and scalable systems that can be adapted to different production environments and tasks.
Variations in data generated by AI will also be a challenge to tackle. To ensure reliability and accuracy in robotics technology and automation, we must be able to understand and manage variations in the data generated by AI. This will require a deeper understanding of machine learning and data analysis.
Despite these challenges, the future looks bright for robotics technology and automation. RobotNorge will continue to be an important contributor to the development of these technologies and will continue to lead the way in finding innovative and effective solutions for industrial robots and automation systems.
